3 Meditation Tips for the Busy Mom

Are you a busy mom interested in meditation? It's no wonder that so many of us are. In these intensely busy times when we're bombarded by a steady pulse of technology, media, and politics, in addition to jobs, finances, household chores, children's education and behavior, we feel an instinctive need to calm and center our minds.
Before I became a busy mom, writer, and teacher, I was a yoga instructor. I was able to take the spiritual lessons I learned on the mat into daily life. This included a still mind and a rhythmic breath.
These days, I don't do headstands the way I used to, and I don't have the patience to sit still with my eyes closed.
So for the past five years, my meditation has been different but effective. Here's what I do to give you some ideas:
1. Memorize positive affirmations and say them to yourself throughout the day. Good sources for these are Louise Hay, Wayne Dyer, for example.
2. Practice mindfulness. When stress levels get high, just be present and don't judge. When your boss/spouse/parent criticizes you, think to yourself: Right now my (boss) is criticizing me, rather than thinking what a (fill in the blank)! I wish s/he would (fill in the blank), which just makes you angry.
3. Connect to a Higher Power. You can pray in your mind to a Higher Power to help you stay calm in the face of tantruming kids/traffic jams/etc. Make sure you to thank this High Power for helping you.
I hope this was helpful. Many blessings.
