One vital component to meditation, particularly in the Buddhist tradition is learning to accept the natural process of life and death for what it is.

Most people have a very easy time contemplating on the birth aspect of the wheel of life. They may not call it meditating, but most pregnant women spend hours of their gestation detailing the future birth of their child.

Trouble comes in when it is time to focus on the aspect of death or assisted living when we have aged substantially. However, becoming comfortable with death is a necessary component of achieving enlightenment. After all whether Christian, Buddhist, or Pagan you likely believe that the end will bring about peace and solitude or even a new beginning.
Even for those who don't believe that death leads to anything, peace should be found in the eventual resolution of it all. If it all ends with your heartbeat what is their left to be afraid of?

So remember in your meditations to work on accepting deaths as well as you have accepted life, work to understand that the end will eventually come but it is only a part of a much bigger circle.
